He is subject to fines of $88,650 for your 3 times by skipping minicamp. A could be incurred by eschewing training camp, as those penalties call for fines of $40,000 per day missed. Fines are at the team’s discretion.
Slay has two years left on his contract with base salaries of $12.55 million in 2019, and $10 million in 2020. The two-time Pro Bowler has seen he is leapt by a bevy of corners since registering his $48 million contract extension in 2016 at the pay department. Slay sits 13th in annual salary among corners. The 28-year-old declined to update his contract discussions.
“I ai not getting into this,” he explained. “I’m going to let my agent and the organization kind of handle all that. I am just going to be chill about it and see how everything plays out.”
With two years left on his contract, the Lions could be reluctant to acquiesce to any demands, thus setting a precedent (fellow teammate Damon”Snacks” Harrison also held out of minicamp).
At this point, the Lions haven’t hinted at if they’re amicable to reworking those deals — potentially following the Julio Jones-model of sweetening the pot this year with ideas of an extension next offseason. Detroit trainer Matt Patricia insists he focused on the players showing up to work outs.
“I believe I have addressed that problem,” Patricia said. “I believe I am really going to concentrate on the guys that are here, so far as that is concerned, and chat about them. Whatever communication we have between the player and us are kept private with gamers in these situations. So if we return for training camp, then we constantly expect everybody where they’re supposed to be if they’re there to be. It is dealt with by us, and we proceed from there. But do not actually look into that too much.”
The Lions, along with the rest of the NFL players, are away to another six weeks or so, until training camps open in late July. We’ll see if Slay will last to hold out.
